It’s time to go for another spin through the world of video game music on vinyl! Pun totally intended!
This time we’re bringing some guests with us, as Tim Stoney and Wayne Strange from the Resurrection of the Night: Alucard’s Elegy Kickstarter join us for the latest news and releases in video game vinyl, as well as listening to our newest featured albums!
First, Jeremy takes us back to the distant past of the mid-90s with iam8bit’s release of Rocket League, and the electronic dance stylings of the Mike Ault, Hollywood Principle et al. What are the challenges of an album full of “hero” menu music, and what is Tim and Wayne’s surprising connection to the genre? Next, Anthony revisits the original Mondo Castlevania release, and we listen to one whole side of the 10″ release (for the better and the worse). We recognize Kinuyo Yamashita and her career debut soundtrack, appreciating the music but also recognizing the troubles with that vinyl release.
Finally, we segue into Materia Collective’s Castlevania-themed “Alucard’s Elegy” project, an orchestral and choral version of Symphony of the Night arranged by Tim and Wayne! How are the arrangements chosen? What kind of music is actually being produced? And don’t forget, a signed vinyl album is in the offing if the project funds by November 26, 2017, but don’t wait for that date to decide! Go check it out!
Congratulations to Cuphead competition winner Connor S., and thanks to everyone who participated in the giveaway!
Thanks to TheReginaldProgram for the direct feed of Castlevania side A!
