In your time of greatest need, Video Game Grooves returns!! The cohosts are reunited for the first time this year, and just in the nick of time! There’s news and very recent announcements to get through, and we make sure that you’re up to date on the latest news of video game music on vinyl record! The biggest (and smallest) new releases of January are illuminated, and we help you sort it all out.

In our features segment, a couple of great (and recent) releases go under the spotlight! First, Portal by Kelly Bailey takes us back to 2007 when the cake was still a lie and everyone still loved Still Alive. Reveling in the deep dark isolation of Portal’s score gives us a newfound appreciation for the dark layers and dark humor of the game. Next, the jazzy pop and flow of Shoji Meguro’s Persona 5 score pep us back up and drum up some discussion of value, quality, and expectations, but ultimately appreciation for a well-written bunch of music.

For our third segment we look ahead later in the year at our anticipated vinyl releases, including some early wish fulfillment from last year’s dream list. A few of our soon-to-be-favorites are on the horizon, and some that we’re not sure exist yet! Share your picks with us too on Twitter!
